The Effect of Group Rational Emotive Therapy on the Life-Position of Nursing Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of Rational Emotive Group Training on the life-position of nursing students. This program was based on the Ellis ABCDE principle and RET note through instruction, student's presentation and feedback.
The subjects for this study were 18 senior nursing students with 3 group who were clinically practicing on the psychiatric ward. Each group was composed of 6 nursing students. Time of each session was 90 minutes. The program was held two times a week for two weeks, therefore the total number of session was 12 times for 6 weeks.
Data were collected from May 28, 2001 to July 7, 2001 and were measured by using life-position instrument before and after the RET group training.
The data were analyzed by an SPSS computerized program and included paired t-test to examine the pre-post difference of life position.
As the result, main hypothesis, 'Life-Position of Nursing Student will be desirably improved after RET group training' was partially accepted. Subhypothesis 1, 'The score of self and others acceptance of the nursing students will be higher after RET training than that of before' was supported. (p<0.05)
Subhypothesis 2, 'The score of self and others denial of the nursing students will be lower after RET training than that of before' was rejected.
In conclusion, even short -terms, RET group training is efficient for improving life-position of nursing students, especially for self and others acceptance.
